The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project is the largest construction project in the history of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). With the addition of twin, 2-lane bored tunnels and five miles of Interstate (I-64) widening, the $3.8 billion major expansion project will improve connectivity and relieve traffic congestion in the region.

On Point Transportation PR assists VDOT with communications and public involvement for the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project. Working closely with VDOT, we developed the Communications Plan, defining objectives, audience groups, stakeholders, key messages, strategies, and tactics. On Point also delivers project presentations to community groups and stakeholders on behalf of VDOT throughout Hampton Roads. Public engagement delivers awareness and mitigates community impact. On Point also provides media advertising services, event planning, as well as content development, creative services, website support, collateral materials, and video to enhance public involvement. Additional communications tasks include the HRBT Expansion Magazine. On Point develops the content, graphic design, and layout for the bi-annual project publication. We also developed the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Naming Contest. Through direct community outreach, the contest was launched for middle school students in the region. On Point developed the comprehensive content, educational materials, contest collateral and rules.

On Point also developed the comprehensive communications Scope of Work for the design-build RFP. The technical specifications defined the responsibilities and communications requirements for the design-builder and established VDOT as the primary communications lead for all public engagement.
